Thermal, geothermal, solar energy and electricity trade — pioneering Turkey's energy landscape since 1996.
Karadeniz Holding, which took a step in the energy sector in 1996, carries out the projects in this area with Karadeniz Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. (Karkey). The investments in two main areas, land plants and electricity trade, blazed a trail in Turkey.
KARKEY started commercial production in Silopi district of Şırnak with its first thermal power plant in 1999. After the decision of liberalization in the energy sector, Karkey became the first company that got more than one license along the energy value chain. Silopi Thermal Power Plant provided electricity to the northern region of Iraq through cross-border lines for 12 years. Karkey is the first private company engaged in electricity exports from Turkey.
Targeting to increase the investment in land-based power plants in the country, Karkey started to invest in geothermal with a total reserve of 200 MW in Aydın in 2015 and started to produce 24 MW at the end of 2017. In 2017, it also established a solar energy plant located on an area of 200,000 m² in Hatay.
The installed capacity of Karkey in Turkey has become more than 500 MW with its production, wholesale and export licenses. Karkey continues to develop innovative projects with thermal power plants and renewable energy sources in the country.
Karadeniz Energy Group companies have been one of the leading companies in the sector with both electricity trade and cross-border electricity export activities through bilateral agreements.
Within the framework of electricity purchase and sale agreement signed with the Republic of Iraq Ministry of Electricity, from Turkey to Iraq since 2003, 9 billion kWh of electricity was exported. Our company has kept its place among the 100 largest exporting companies in Turkey.
Istanbul Mineral and Metals Exporters' Association (IMMIB) awarded the “IMMIB Export Star Award” twice in 2006 and 2010 in its category. It was also awarded the second prize in 2008 and the third prize in 2007, 2009 and 2014.
